FANS of glamour queen Katie Price are used to seeing her almost daily on the pages of magazines and tabloids.
But they were able to get up close and personal with the model-turned-author among the books of a city store yesterday.
More than 200 of her admirers spent hours queuing to meet the lads' mag favourite formerly known as Jordan.
They jostled among the shelves at Waterstone's in the West End of Princes Street, where the 29-year-old was signing copies of her third autobiography Pushed to the Limit, in which she reveals how she turned to drugs following the birth of her second child to combat post natal depression.
In true model style, the star - whose numerous nips, tucks, enhancements and reductions have been so well documented - turned up an hour late for the signing, arriving at 5pm.
Sarah Gorman, 15, from Gilmerton, who has now met the model three times, said: "She's experienced so much that we all like to follow what's going on in her life. She recently battled depression, suffered a miscarriage and has had a lot of trouble with her son [Harvey, who was born with a developmental illness] and his accidents. She's just not your average 29-year-old woman."
Kylie Reid, 20, travelled more than 25 miles from Addiewell, West Lothian, to be at the store at 7.30am to make sure she didn't miss her.
She said: "Katie is my idol. She's beautiful, she's funny and when you read about her she comes across as just your normal, average woman."
Emma-Jane Steel, 16, from Prestonpans said: "She's had a hard life and she's had to cope with a lot more than most 29-year-olds. I like her fiction books, but I also think her non-fiction books have a lot to say."
And Louise Telford, 20, from Wester Hailes, was bordering on hysteria by the time the star arrived, having queued since 9.30am. She said: "I'm sweating, I've got a sore head and I think I'm going to faint at the idea of meeting her."
Katie arrived in Edinburgh in more sober attire than last week's Valentine's Day book signing in London, where she accidentally gave fans an eyeful of the recently reduced assets that made her famous.
Dressed in a black sweater, leggings and heels, she posed for photos before meeting the fans.
"I've been to Edinburgh I don't know how many times but I never get a chance to go out," she said. "I do like the buildings though."
Earlier in the day, top-selling city crime writer Ian Rankin praised her for promoting literacy.
However, she then revealed she had never heard of the Rebus author. She added: "I don't know any other authors, but tell him thank you very much."
